A welcome survey show of recent work by Dublin-born Gerard Byrne who, in a relatively short time, has built up a formidable international reputation for his ambitious, wide-ranging projects.

Byrne is showing at the Venice Biennale this year and represented Ireland there in 2007. His work explores strategies of representation and their underlying meanings, and touches on literature, theatre and various aspects of popular culture as well as fine art per se.

Through the Eyesfeatures five projects undertaken since 2003. Often with this artist, projects can extend and evolve over long periods, being reconstituted in different settings and times rather than being fixed and concluded. Characteristically, Byrne draws on cultural forms from the recent past, staging reconstructions of existing texts, with varying degrees of Brechtian alienation.
